The PeaceBirds Project is on exhibit at the LAVA Center through early August. We will offer readings of Phoenix in the HolyLand on July 11 at 11:30 am - 1:00pm with a folding circle after the reading; and July 18, which will start with a folding circle at 11:30 am followed by a reading of the play at 1:00.

I wrote Phoenix in the HolyLand in the winter and spring of 2023 “while genocide made poetry seem impossible,” to amplify the connection between advocacy on the international stage and local activist struggles; between South Africa’s genocide case against Israel brought to the ICJ and local activists fighting for a town’s ceasefire resolution. A year into the ongoing genocide in Palestine, Ash Goverman directed a full production at CitySpace in October 2024.
In anticipation of the third year, the LAVA Center will host a reading of the play and an opportunity to fold birds as we contemplate pathways to end the unbearable genocide, ecocide, omnicide of the HolyLand. Let’s sit together in peace. These readings are undirected, unstaged, opportunities for the community to experience the play as a participant.
